Raised in East Orange, New Jersey, Janice spent her youth listening to her parents’ multi-genre, multi-generational record collection, including soul, R&B, reggae, calypso, and gospel. She began singing at an early age, in her church choir, then branching out to school choruses, neighborhood bands, and vocal groups. All of this was put on hold when she left New Jersey to attend Boston University, but it wasn’t long before the bug bit and she was back at it participating in BU’s Inner Strength Gospel Choir, while also gigging with local artists around town. Her most notable performance was opening up for Regina Belle at a benefit gala in Boston, MA. Since that time, her musical aspirations have taken her from the stage to the studio, singing pop, jazz, soul/R&B, and gospel, as well as taking time out to formally train and teach voice for three years. Her current passion is writing her own music. She resides in Brighton, MA. She is featured as the background female vocalist on AfterSix Productions’ track, “Marry Me” “My music is a soundtrack of who I am and my life experiences. It provides me with the abandon to communicate with my heart instead of my head – the means to escape to a place where there is only sound. My voice I view as a gift that can be used to cross all the lines that we, in society, have drawn to separate ourselves – a tool that can be used to comfort and to celebrate. Being blessed with it has been an awesome experience for me.”
